:: What's a hashtag?
Created by the people. Intended to categorize tweets and other content related to a topic.
Simply include the tag in your tweet and other people searching for the same tag will be able
to find it. It looks like this: #tag.
:: What's a hashtag registry?
Twubs.com is creating a simple directory of hashtags so that hashtags can be easily
categorized as a business, a conference, an event, a hobby, etc. The registry will
best allow your tag to be found and others like it. Twubs has the goal of creating
"relevant conversation around aggregated content". By allowing users to quickly find other
topics of interest, Twubs allows users to instantly engage in other
conversations that they may not have known about previously.
:: Why would I want to register a hashtag?
It minimizes the likelihood
of using a hashtag that is already in use by another organization or event. Helps prevent other
events or organizations from using your hashtag. Promoters of Twubs.com can effectively "own" their
conversation, where appropriate. For example, Cisco should probably have a right to control content
being displayed at Twubs.com that is related to #Cisco; whereas, the public should own
other content like #wine or #CMS, etc..so, some Twubs that should be the “public’s domain
will remain as such; but, organizations that own trademarks will be able to
manage their branded hashtag appropriately.
