Abu-Ali Abdur'Rahman has been housed on the State of Tennessee's death row for over 30 years. His capital murder trial, held in Nashville in 1987, lacked both crime scene evidence and presentation of his history of mental illness due to the violent abuse he endured as a child. Eight jurors now say that they no longer have confidence in their sentencing verdict. His set execution date of April 16, 2020, was removed and exchanged for a life in prison sentence on August 30, 2019, through the Davidson County Criminal Court. Now, the State of Tennessee Attorney General's office is appealing that decision. Abu's execution date could be reinstated. Abu has never received a fair trial.
